PDF Deck of Worlds Lesson Plans

This PDF contains a set of six printable lesson plans for integrating Deck of Worlds into the classroom. The lessons cover the following topics and include accommodations and alternatives for different groups sizes and classroom needs:

1. "What Is Worldbuilding?": Introduce students to the importance and effect of setting in storytelling. Students will apply their learning by building a fictional microsetting.
2. Worldbuilding and Storytelling: Explore with students the role of conflict in storytelling through worldbuilding.
3. Worldbuilding and Genre: Highlight the impact of genre in storytelling. Students will apply a strong or new genre to the story they have been working on in the previous lessons.
4. Creating Fictional Ecosystems, Environments, and Geography: Students will explore the effects of environments, geography, and ecosystems on the people who live within them through the development of microsettings using Deck of Worlds.
5. Creating a Fictional Culture: Students will consider and explore the role of culture in storytelling. They will create microsettings using Deck of Worlds to develop their fictional culture.
6. "Whose History Is It?": Encourage students to consider different perspectives. Students will write one story from two cultural perspectives with guidance from a Deck of Worlds microsetting.
